Past Interim Sheriff Charles Andrews Passes Away

June 23, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of former Deputy and Interim Sheriff, Charles Andrew.
Charles Andrew was a devoted public servant who proudly carried on his family’s legacy within the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office. He served our agency with honor through 1994, following the conclusion of his father’s final term as Sheriff, Charles was appointed to serve as Interim Sheriff until December 1994.
In January of 1995, when the Detention Center became its own entity, he was appointed as the Warden of the Caroline County Detention Center. In that role, he continued to impact lives through his steady leadership and unwavering commitment to justice.
Charles’ legacy is also reflected in the very foundation of our facilities. The Caroline County Detention Center—commonly known as the Andrew Building, which previously housed both the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and the Caroline County Detention Center until 2021 when we moved our operations to Double Hills Road—was named in honor of the Andrew family for their decades of dedicated service to law enforcement in Caroline County. It stands as a lasting tribute to the family's profound impact on our community.
Those who had the privilege of working alongside Charles remember him for his quiet strength, dependable leadership, and deep dedication to public service.
On behalf of the entire Sheriff’s Office, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. His service and memory will remain a valued part of our agency’s history.
